Rope seal around woodburner door (and handle)
« on: March 09, 2012, 04:10:12 pm »
Does anyone know what attaches/sticks the fireproof rope that goes around the edge of the woodburner door to the door? Ours has decided to flop away and I cant see what it is short of pulling the rest off which I am loathe to do!!!

Also due to the rope coming away, the handle got very hot and fell off! What can I reattach it with? (the handle is a spiral of metal with a small base plate and it was attached to a little cast iron block on the cast iron door casing). Basically what would be heatproof that could 'stick' it back on?

very grateful for any advice as heating is on the blink so am very reliant on it working properly at the mo!

You get special glue for it, like this:

Pretty easy job once you have the glue - just squirt a bit where you need it...

Make sure you leave the glue to dry for a day or so before lighting the stove. It'll all bubble if you don't!

oh goody Im glad you said that, cos I was thinking, ooo I must get on and light it (Ive done the glueing) as the instructions imply you do it straight away!!
Thankfully I havent and now you have reassured me it was better not to have! :-))

I did the glueing a few days back so now I should be able to light it safely, yippee!

Just what I needed as the rope came off parts of our doors too ( after 3 months of use).

As well as the glue you can also get the new heatproof silicone sealant in the big tubes.

If you have any old exhaust manifold spray paint in the shed - use that to put the beads back on. Seems to work. - However I may buy some of that heatproof silicone for the job - might even work on an exhaust? :)
