For Sale Berkshire sow 6mths old
« on: March 28, 2009, 10:07:36 am »
Hi I recently bought a Berkshire pig to house train & so my children could show her. Unfortunatly due to circumstances beyond my control & the mindless vandals that live in my area i have found myself in the position where i have to sell her for her own well being.
Her name is Pepa she is 6mths old she has a very friendly temperament, loves being scratched & she loves children & people.
I am asking £60 for her which is the price i paid. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions. Thank-you Hayley. Margate in Kent

I would be tempted to use an electric fence 240v would be ok but 3 phase electric would be better as this gives about 415v.
Not for the pig but for the vandals.
Keep the pig get in touch with your local police and demand they do something. Please don't give in, at the end of the day I firmly believe we get the society we ask for.

however if you do want to sell her let us know where you are located.

David.

I wish you lived closer I would love your pig and more to the point I could lend you Hilary.  Would like to see the vandal who could get the better of her.  Built like a tank, moves like a porche, stings like a trident missile.!!! :pig:

I agree with David - we've been the victims of vandals and mindless thefts over the last 3 years, but after the last incident I decided enough was enough and made a bit of a fuss. I know it takes time and energy to try and get something done, but why let them stop you and your children doing what you want to do?

Last week I had a visit from the Chief Inspector of the Thames Valley police, today I received a letter from my MP and I ain't stopping now. Even if you do sell your sow, what will they stop you doing next?

Sorry, rant over, but it makes me so cross.

Hi David i would love to put an electric fence up but apart from being too expensive, because its a private propety and not buisiness i would be prosecuted, i can't even put barbed wire up around the top of the wall because that is a criminal offence too in case someone hurts themselves! while they tryin to burgle my garden or next time my house!! How can it be a criminal offence to protect your property the law is on the side of the criminal thats what keeps them in work thats the conclusion i'v reached... So Pepa has to go for her own safety and the safety of others as we live near to a main road & she could cause an accident, get run over or even killed thats something i really don't want to happen. I am in Margate Kent. Hayley

if you put an electric or barbed wire fence inside your boundary fence and post a warning along the fence that its electric then wouldnt that be enough?  It might be worth contacting your local paper, MP, Police etc. to see exactly what you can and cant do.  Good luck.

Grrr, it makes me so angry...it's yob rule. The police are understaffed, under resourced, and the law has just become farcical. Let a person protect their own property......if a guy breaks in then you should have the right to let him have it

I know it makes me angry too!! My next door neighbour put barbed wire around her averies in her garden not even on the perimeter cos the low life used to keep letting em out she had signs up but the police made them take it down because it was dangerous in the end she had to get rid off her birds. If you are a registered buisness it fine!! Why can't law abiding folk protect there property, family and pets?

It sounds like you have a local person who doesn't like anybody having any livestock, I still think the police should be made to do their job.

Besst to contact your  ?local council?  or whoever and discuss your problem.  Then ask exactly what you can do to prevent this.  Ie.  Can you erect a barbed wire fence, if so where, if not why not.  There should be some way of protecting yourselves and your livestock.  Pin them down, if that fails get on to your local councellor, he is elected to be your representative.  Make him work for his money.
