Well, the deed is done. My lovely hubby took control and did it by dislocating and then bleeding to make sure. They are now 'resting' in the fridge. The pigs went off this morning too (our first lot) Thank God they go to the abattoir!  :P
Thank you, everyone for all your advice

I'm going to have to recruit help for mine. I can't do it. Simper, simper, sob, sob.

I do indeed. And I've had A Very Big Word with myself.  Still no joy, though. Maybe I have a dual personality? There is one sensible one who would like to slaughter and eat the unproductive beasts, and the other who is a gigantic big girl's blouse.

Ok. So, I'm scared that either I'll pull their heads right off, for not pull hard enough. And I won't know which I've done because there will be all the flapping........

i pulled my first ones head right off, second one i had to finish with the axe, third one i got just right. you can feel it when the neck gives, and its instinctive, theres no denying that its a violent act and thats what makes it hard to overcome, but i reckon its better to learn by a mistake or two first and then be able to do it properly all the rest of the time. just keep an axe ready while you practice. does that sound harsh, i dont mean to.

I imagine the arterial spray would be impressive. And revolting.
