Free time
« on: March 23, 2009, 05:59:40 pm »
It is very clear from reading the threads on here that we are all busy people!

So, what do you do to relax, get away from all the hard work?

My work keeps me very busy indeed but actually looking after all the animals I have is a great escape and therapy I suppose. I also enjoy going to concerts but sadly due to pressures of work don't get to as many as I used to. Although last February I did fulfill a life long ambition and got to see Bette Midler live in concert - twice!!!

Looking forward to hearing your tales.

I love taking my dogs out, even better with my partner, I used to enjoy  driving my VW Camper around the UK, when I get it back it will be around Scotland, I like music, particularly live and been to a few concerts in the past but am selective, Prodigy being my very bestist also enjoying classical, chill out, Blues, world music and some heavy stuff are all great, Joules Holland plays stuff I love usually. I like theatre, some films, drinking and socialising, my biggest treat was to leave the rat race, come up to Scotland and work from home, meeting great people in great surroundings in wonderful fresh air.....I am not keen on TV, only certain things like Grand Design, Location Location, reality and Nature stuff and some comedy programmes, I do not read much for some reason I can not get into books, only on train journeys, I like being creative and love outdoors stuff but due to having a big house I end up doing the same cleaning jobs everyday and not having enough time to be outdoors......I could go on but my teas ready...Oh yes..I love cooking for people (and eating)

Pottering about in the garden has kept me sane over many years, some of them difficult. If I have the time I love to read and occasionally watch a good movie. Both books and films are piling up, no use me taking out a free rental trial, lol.:&>

Reading, probably. I can get completely immersed in a book - have done since I was a child. Sometimes a film but I don't often sit for the required time! A book is easier to lift and lay down again. On holiday, I can get through a book a day.

I suffer from terrible insomnia (sleep is the cousin of death) and find it very difficult to relax. If I am not doing something I get bored and frustrated. However, shooting seems to do the trick. Making and playing loud music also seem to take the edge off (well for me, not so much Mel!!)

I was on holiday in January and one of the books I read - in a day - was Jeffrey Archer, "Prisoner of Birth". I could not put this book down and think it is fair to say that this is the best book I have ever read. How's that for a reccommendation?

I still enjoy making tome to watch the football, don't watch just any game that's on the telly though - that would be a full time job. Just watch the team my username alludes to.

the dog gets his routine walks mon-fri, but weekends we'll head off to a beach or river, let him explore new surrounds.

then i like to cook (and eat) though that is a hobby that i've got more into as i've started to grow more of my own food. So would that be classed as free time? I guess that's the reward for the effort put in earlier!

finally, there is a computer game called Championship Manager. I just have it on beside me on the laptop, i reckon i've been playing it for years and years. Luckily you don't have to be glued to the screen, so you can come and go whilst playing - but i reckon the man hours that have gone into that could have seen me achieve something sonderful with my life!

between work, smallholding and family life, not much time left. however wife makes me go on holiday with family and i squeeze in @ 6 rounds of golf during summer months. ( like a good walk spoiled) i watch a little telly late evening but manage to nod off watching most things. so i suppose my free time is spent sleeping mostly. i hate doing nowt, so even on holiday I am rushing round finding stuff to do, walking, sailing, kayaking, cycling, tennis, swimming, sightseeing, fishing and even reading the odd book. ( i get teased for reading poultry and smallholding stuff). theres plenty of time to rest when your older, or worse.

my spare time,  like to pottering around the garden, i also like driving, lisening to music, my Wii games, Also like reading reference books and researching my mad cap project, where i get my vast knowledge from. i like watch ruggas (am welsh enought said) but not a football fan (hubby loves his Scottish football team too sellticbhoy, but i wouldn't call that relaxing, lol) I really love being creative being art/craft or food.
i like watching relevant tv and the occasional film if i can do something at the same time because i have a problem sitting on my bum for too long.

Well, basically I am lazy!  When not pottering around the house and taking the dogs for walks, I love going to dog shows.  I like using Excel on my computer (I'm Treasurer for our Breed club and Stirling City Choir - as from September, assistant just now) and browsing various forums I'm on - our breed one, working gundogs, knitting machine, and this one.  I'm also haphazardly traing my young dog to the gun.  And if it's warm enough I garden, but as well as being lazy I like being warm so gardening isn't often at the mo.  However, that said, I've just this morning laid some slabs as a patio - in the hope of a good summer where I can laze about some more and let my dogs run around me while doing that  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

laying slabs seems like a lot of work for a lazy person, you should have just bought a hammock!!

it'll sit on grass without any worries and you'd have saved all that work - and hammocks are great for being lazy!!

When I get some free time I enjoy swimming, reading, playing the Wii, golf is the one I enjoy the most. summer evenings just grooming the ponies and telling them about my day. Pottering in the garden or playing with the dogs.  :)

I don't have a huge amount of free time, but when I do I like crafting - (cards, jewellery and pyrography.) I also enjoy pottering round in the garden and cooking & EATING (esp now as I have the excuse of 'eating for 2 !')
Other than that it's the (very) occaisional fishing trip (the boys don't like it when I catch more than them, which I seem to have a knack of doing) and playing on-line Texas Hold'em poker.
I'll have to get used to having even less time once junior makes his appearance  ;)
