the joys of internet shopping
« on: January 19, 2012, 11:49:55 am »
just found a good price on medicated worming pellets and my browser warned me that
www.farmandpetplace.co.uk uses an invalid security certificate.................
anyone else used them before for anything?  surely crooks wouldn't choose to create a fake site selling farming stuff? I love the site as you can chat with them if you have questions about the products, not have heard back yet about this issue though... >:( :&>

There is an address in Wales and a phone number on the contact page. It might be worth calling to explain the problem. There may be a simple answer.

I'm not sure it necessarily means there is anything wrong with the site but probably that you could pick up a virus from there if they have an invalid security certificate.  Having said that I am no expert and someone with more knowledge will probably come along soon.

Speaking from experience I would be very careful.  I have had a bad virus this week which put my desktop out of action for 2 days. I don't know where the problem started but I am very reluctant to click on any links now.

Update: Problem solved. It was a problem with our intermediate certificate being *ahem* moved accidently.

Hi there,

Saw this thread and thought it would be best to reply - don't normally do this as hate for anybody to think we're spamming.

First off, we're legit. We have five stores in North Wales, and we've been going for 30 odd years. Give me a call on 01492643020 if you like!

My concern is the certificate error you've received. This only appears on Firefox; Internet Explorer and Chrome both don't do this... which I've just discovered thanks to your chat. We've got our technical boffins on it, and hope to get this fixed soon (few hours).

Thanks for pointing this out to me, and if you send me a message, I would like to give you a coupon code as a way of thanks.

Sorry for the scare! Hope you all know we're legit, and we will get to the bottom of the certificate problem.

Brilliant, nice to see you on here, Paul . Isn't google great - and TAS, you might get a few more customers now  ;D I may have chosen my words not that wisely when asking my friends on here for advice   ;D, my concern was mainly that you may have been hacked as it comes up once I click on checkout....so will check  - see you later or I'll phone the order in tomorrow.  :&>

Hi princesspiggy,

This problem only affects Firefox - if you don't use that, then you're fine.

The SSL certificate does two things, it confirms that we are who we say we are and that you can trust us; and it also encrypts the traffic. The problem with Firefox is the confirming who we say we are - it would still be encrypted, although I would recommend against processing an order with any sort of SSL certificate error.

We're working on it, and hope to get it resolved in the next hour or so - we know it isn't anything malicious, just a problem with the setup of the certificates.

Again, non Firefox users will be unaffected. Hope that helps! Remember, we're here to help if you need us (live chat at the bottom).

I must say that from there all went really quickly , after the glitch with the Mozilla browser was fixed - Friday I had the call from the pharmacy about the medicated pellets and today the order arrived! Great service altogether and good value, most items were cheaper than at other places on-line and in shops.
If you read this, Paul - do you have an amount from when the delivery is free - for the future? Could not find anything on the actual site and it's too late in the day for the on-line chat  ;D

Thanks for the information, agree it is a good price on the medicated pellets? £9.95 for 20 kg and £6.49 for 10kg + £2.99 P&P

Doncha just love, that in an age when we all suspect everything (probably quite sensibly), this sort of thing resolves with a good company and good service behind it  ;D

Thanks for the feedback! We ALWAYS love to hear feedback.

The free delivery is a tricky one for us. Truth be told, we like to keep our costs down so much that it would be difficult for us to cover the cost of the delivery without increasing the prices of the goods - which we don't want to do.

We're working on it, but at the minute we're working on the premise of lowest price for the delivery and goods, with the same price in our stores.

The £2.99 delivery is for up to 28kg though, so you can always add some extra bits on.

Don't rule out the live chat, no matter the hour it is worth a try.
