I would not buy a second hand one, they will be damaged or stressed from their last fitting and will have weak areas. They are cheap enough to buy, covers are the cheap bit of the polytunnel! First Tunnels do replacement covers, they have a website you can buy from.

The trouble with homemade ones is that they may need taking down in winter. You can make excellent summer tunnels with blue water pipe and wood but they are not as strong as the proper tubes. Mine is 35x15 and has withstood many a gale over the six years it has been up.Worth it for winter and summer use. Have a check on their site they are cheaper than you think and with First tunnels you design your own so you can buy basic but add to it over the years as they do all accessories and spares. Good luck, they are addictive so build the biggest you can! then you will want another!!

thatsexactly how he's talking about doing it - with water pipes and wood.  i hope it works, and he's a bit of a perfectionist so i think it'll be ok.  I keep saying i want it huge, andhe keeps rolling his eyes, so who knows how bigit'll be in the end!!

I also wouldn't buy a second hand cover. We bought a used tunnel a couple of years ago but binned the cover and bought a new one. They're not too expensive.
