Yes I know, Carole on this site has some which she breeds.  I think they are importing some more bloodlines (including blondes) from Austria this month.  An exciting event.  Even though Hilary hates mangalitsas I may be tempted when the blonde babies start arriving.  They are so pretty.  Caroles are extremely tame, more like dogs than pigs.  Do they make good eating?

Fantasic eating hilarysmum... we slaughted two boys early this year and they are yummy ;)

we have a parma style ham hanging in the barn, if the OH has done it right its should be great, knowing our luck it will be green, when we bring it down.
we made wet and dry cured bacon, sausage and pork.... we even kept the lungs, liver hearts etc for good old fasioned faggots!!!

Hilary is GOS x pietrain but very royal GOS and Pietrain.  She is a pig with attitude.  She is only on her own by choice.  We used to have mangalitsas.  Hilary hated them.  I will have a blond when Hilary is no longer here.

I read somewhere that pigs can live to be 30 years old.  Please can someone reassure me thats not true.  Please.

Sows cromar princess 14 & 15

boar Aston Curly 9

we also have a trio of reds hopefully the sows will be in pig soon..... We introduced them to the boar this week, they are not impressed!!!!!!

Cromer leader 17
and 2 magic abbottess sows, we are just awaiting paperwork from BPA and i cant remember the numbers

Hopefully next month our trio of swallowbellys arrive, then we will have all 3 colours with all the remaining bloodline represented on either the sow or the boar side.

We also have our two boars at stud, the cost is very reasonable £40 per sow/gilt + livery at £1 per day

I think it's just the pot bellied ones that live that long HM  ;)
The average lifespan is more like 10 years, so I'm told.

Knowing some of Hilary's stories, I can only imagine she'll turn into the pig equivalent of a grumpy old granny in a headscarf who beats up hoodlums with her handbag  ;D
