that is great news Kaz......I had terrible head injuries, skull popped completely open, between the roof of the car and the road in my smash!!, and although I knew what people were saying to me , my responses were very limited for the first six months . However , it got better and better as time went by . I don't think it went back to completely normal ? but good enough . I did an IQ test at six months after the crash and I think I got somewhere about 75 ... that is very very low. I had done them before the crash, and had got  130/136/142 on three seperate tests, all to do with work!  The last one I did ,about 1990 ish (memory has gone now !!) was 128 . All these tests go to prove that the brain does repair and work again (even mine !!!!!) so fingers crossed , all will be well !!! Time really is a healer in these cases ( I know exactly what I am talking about on this subject !!) , just don't rush things , take it easy . Any fractures in the neck also heal well . I shattered c1 ? (the vertebrae that connects the skull to the spine ) luckily the spinal chord was ok ( but very swollen ) and d2 (  vertebrae between the shoulder blades ),the spine between the two breaks twisted a bit too , so causes lots of pain and discomfort , BUT , I can function normally ( well more or less) . Some things I shouldn't do ( but still do ) and I had to relearn how to move about , but it can get back to a new normal where everything is fine . So good luck and take each step as it comes , and always look forward to what CAN be done .  Sorry for the long post , but I really do know about this sort of thing ... been there done that .. got the t-shirt and the broken bones ....lol ::)

cheers

Russ

Thanks Russ for all that.
I've been up to hospital this morning to see him, as struggling to do everything here. As I left I said to him that I would see him tomorrow, and his reply was "Why what's happening tomorrow?" the first real sentence he has said so things are looking up.

That is just terrific!!!!! What a breakthrough.  You now know that his brain is functioning as it should.  Fingers crossed all round for even more progress, and let him know we are all thinking of him too and wishing him back to a full recovery.

Thats fantastic news for both of you, 4 hours travelling is a large weight to be carrying on your shoulders. I have an uncle who sounds a bit like Russ, he  gets a lot of bad head pain and grows cannabis to ease his discomfort. The morale is he is alive and kicking, having been told he had less than 5% chance of pulling through. How are you managing to do everything at home too?
Enjoying life making the most of whats available. My kids were little yesterday, today they are almost adults, where on earth did that change happen?

Bit down today. They are putting a temporary jack into his stomach to feed him this afternoon as he won't tolerate the tube in his mouth. They are also discussing weather to do the rehab at the local hospital, send him back to Morriston or even to Bristol....................

Hope tomorrow is a better day.  You are both in our thoughts.  OH had a brain tumour 10 years ago, now fully recovered, but I still remember the worry and daily trips to hospital.  Stay positive and remember to look after yourself too.

Yes do stay positive, it is really hard I know, our son had a nasty fall the day before his 13th birthday, ruptured his kidney was life and death for a long time, infact (call me crazy if you want) but he actually went for a while and came back.  He remembers it now and our clairvoyant told us loads of stuff as well.  Long and short of it he is fine now thank goodness but it was a very rough ride for a long time.

If ever you want to talk we are here for you
