Help for TAS juniors please
« on: November 27, 2011, 06:34:41 pm »
I'm being a bit of a technophobe about how to get my 10 year old daughter on to TAS juniors - she's been asking me for about 8 months and I finally sat down to do it and not sure how to - she is under 16 so can't register formally but would like her own user name - can she use my email address, she doesn't have one of her own yet (or should I do that first, don't know how to do that either come to think).  Thanks for reading. ??? ??? ???

it may be easier to set up her own email account - i tried to make a new account for myself when i forgot my password and i have a feeling it would not let me use the same email on two accounts.

you could maybe set her up an account as a 16 year old, i think we are all good guys on here that are sane and sorted so no funny business. just make sure everyone is aware of everything  ???

the juniors bit is great - just not many users  :-\

i may have talked a load of dribble, but it may make some sense

I would set her up an email address if I were you. She is going to need one (most likely) anyway, so you might as well help her with it, and make sure she shooses a sensible email address.

Either- set up an additional email adress through your internet provider (most of them let you do that)

Or go to something like hotmail or googlemail and set her up with a free email address.

Both my 13 and 12 year old neices have email addresses. You also need an email adress to set up a Facebook account (you might not want her to have one of those yet- but I am sure she will soon be wanting one!) Both my neices have Facebook accounts- they are young enough that they have added all of their family as friends, but I am sure that will change in a few years when they don't want us to see what they get up to!

Thank you all, yes I think you're right about the email address, she's thankfully never mentioned facebook or twitter (yet) and I will give myself a deadline for that or I'll never do it.  The juniors section is good for them but you're right that it's not used enough.  Perhaps we'll put on lots of pics and hopefully generate some interest.  She's very good at telling me how to do things on the computer (frightening) but creating an email address is not one, sure it can't be that difficult.  Thanks again all.

My 10 yr old tried to join too but because she was under 16 we sort of stumbled at the first hurdle and me being me, I forgot all about it (oops!) so I will try and get her on here too as a junior

nice one plumbs!  perhaps they can say hello to each other, my daughter isn't pink, (not interested in clothes or High School Musical) but not a tom boy, just likes all the animals and her guinea pigs especially, she writes adventure stories for them endlessley and she's very quiet natured, a bit of a Beatrix Potter in the making.  But I know what you mean - I suffer from motheritis (aka deep fried brain) and can't seem to find the time to soak in technology any more  ::)
