Hi, I'm a Mancunian tucked away in South Western Hungary
« on: November 24, 2011, 05:33:47 pm »
I'm on a small, small holding (about half a hectare). We manage to grow most of our own vegetables, half goats for milk cheese and meat, rescue chickens for eggs, Indian runner ducks, two geese for guard dogs, two dogs to guard the geese and a growing number of cats that keep adopting us. We make our own hay but don't produce much grain. Currently we are trying to improve our renewable energy situation. Also we have a small back pack hostel.

Hi and thanks for the welcomes.
Well in answer, deepinthewoods, Hungary is a place that needs a certain amount of mind ajustment. In the countryside people are not quick to take up anything new, probably a hang over from the old Stalinist regime. My wife is Hungarian and I've been coming here off and on for years so I'm used to it. Luckily the people tend to be friendly. Its still a cheap country to live in and its exotic enough to be interesting but has decent basics, health care buses etc. I've been a car free person for four years now.
Hi Martin, google ecohun, there's a blog that Eva does in there somewhere and loads of other stuff. The back pack hostel is also on Hostelworld and Hostelbookers. We come under Pecs.

Best  Alan
