Our two Shetlands are coming home tonight, hopefully carrying calves.

Breeze was AI'd for the second time on 15th August and hasn't come in season since, and she's been running with the bull so not relying on me seeing her.

Blizzard was served on the 19th September by the bull, after 3 AI attempts - just over three weeks ago - and the bull has shown no ore interest in her since.

So, hopefully, both are in calf, due 25th May and 29th June respectively. They need a TB test so I'll get them scanned at the same time in a couple of weeks.

OMG - so excited!! Thanks CorrieDhu for all your help and for listening to me wailing about the possibility of them never getting in calf. All we needed was Viking

Of course they will require lots of mum to be care....well, head scratches and the rattle of the feed bucket will do :-))))

Both home safe. Had a good drink and a scratch. They're still a bit unsettled - lots of mooing (they're in the paddock right next to John and Linda's caravan too  ) - but hopefully they'll have settled by morning.

did u use a local bull? (sorry if uv already posted this)
mine are off to a local bull (very lucky - only 10 miles away) once we get the results for their blood tests. i think theyl be away 6 weeks but i shall miss them, tho they are very noisy when they are bulling. we have reserved a bull calf for next year from inverness so this is the only time we'l need to send them away.
how are yours weight wise? mine have just been on very rough grass but one is getting very tubby. hopefully winter will sort that tho.

Breeze is in calf to Stanemore Odin by AI. Blizzard is in calf to a young bull called Collafirth Viking, who was bred on Shetland and is owned by a breeder in Aberdeenshire. Viking is dark grey, so an unusual colour. They are being scanned a week Friday when they get their TB tests done - so I hope I'm not counting my calves 

My cows have been up at another breeder, CorrieDhu on here, with her four cows and Viking.

The arrangements were made by the North of Scotland rep of the SCBA, Paddy Zakaria - who has been absolutely brilliant.

Um, mine area little porky - probably condtion score 4, but they should drop a bit over the winter.

Who are you buying your bull calf from?

I think we're going to be setting up a Shetland Cattle board on here for SCBA members. I don't see you on the SCBA breeders' list - you not a member?

Hi thought you might like to see a picture of Collafirth Viking as a calf.  He was bred by my uncle Robert Ramsay and shown by me at the 2010 Cunningsburgh show.  He was 1st prize Bull calf, Best pure bred Shetland calf and reserve champion to his sister Collafirth white rowan.

Hullo  Great to see a Shetland Shetland breeder on here. We're going to have  Shetland cattle board on here soon (I think).

Viking's a cracking bull and seems to have a really good temperament. I saw a photgraph of his sire Roanan, who is also very striking.

I White Rowan - love her. I think she's stunning. Are they full siblings?
