« on: October 04, 2011, 09:46:42 pm »
I had a letter yesturday from the organisation that owns the land that I graze, Ive been there a year its been great, 5 mins walk from my house, cheap, flexible...lots of extra winter grazing....

the letter said that internation HQ are looking to sell off there non core assetts...which means the land they own, it will take a few months and I will try and buy some but they want top money for it so I dont have much of a chance....have to see what happens... I have 45 sheep :(:(

Even if you dont get it, it's quite likely that the new owner wont want it (all) immediately for whatever plans they have. So they may be happy to rent to you for a while.

But I agree, it must be very very fed up making after all the work....

Oh Andy what a terrible blow.  You love having those sheep.  I will keep my fingers crossed for you either getting a load of money to buy the land, or getting another field to rent.  I will also try to send you some serendipity - it's great stuff  ;D

Oh, what a shame.  But, you never know, quite often investors, with plenty of money, buy land, but then do not want to use it .....so you may still be able to stay there.  I do hope so, or hopefully some more land will become available for you

B****er.  I hope something else turns up - or their greed is such that no-one meets their high price and you get to keep on renting it while they fail to sell it.
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Would your bank give you a loan ? after all ,land is a sound investment for them as it is now out of production, their not making any more of it, or try your local credit union.

They like to sit on it until they can apply for planning permission(which is maybe why it's asking top price) This may take years so don't despair yet.

all very true, there is quarried land where I am and also good pasture, in all over 200 acres, they want top money for the lot as they tell me,  4k - 5k per acre, but I know the quarried area and back filled area is only worth 1k per acre, we have got great crested newts and protected  bats so that should stop delevepers on the quarried site, the local farmer has called  me to try and combine our money to buy the quarried area thats not worth much but that wont stop a rich gypsy buying a large plot and paying over the odds for it.

anyway I have resighned myself that this could be a long journey, it could be very interesting

I'm really sorry for you
We rent a lot of land so i know where your coming from, recently the people that rent us a large portion of land put it up for sale and this was a frightening time for us. but we managed to buy it when they couldn't sell it easily so we got a good price. But it's always dodgy when you rent.
Keep talking to the vendors and try to find out who buys it and also if you have some sort of contract the new owners should honour it until it runs out

As a sitting tenant they can't just chuck you off without giving you suitable notice, just telling you its being sold is not enough, it has to clearly state that you have to be off by a certain date, otherwise the buying party takes over the land with you as sitting tenant at the rate you already agreed with the previous owner, to increase your rent or get rid of you they have to do it in writing, do you have a paper agreement for the land or is just a nod, handshake verbal agreement?

If we dont get to buy it, the grazing licence has three month notice on it, I only pay £200 a year for about 20 acres !!!!  peppercorn stuff !!
