Finding Weaners
« on: February 22, 2009, 10:09:52 pm »
Hello.
We are looking to start keeping pigs, we have everything almost ready. We have the space sorted, the ark built and the fence in position. All we need now are the pigs ! We are hoping to have maybe a couple of Middle Whites and an Oxford Sandy and Black, we are having difficulty finding breeders in our area, we are in Pickering, North Yorkshire.

Does anyone know of any breeders of these breeds in Yorkshire ? we will travel further afield if we need to.

I know someone was searching for a middle white here in France, with no success.  Would it be worth trying the BPA?

On an unrelated note, when I told my oldest son about getting 'weaners'. He laughed uncontrollably saying 'i've already got a weaner!'.  :farmer:

Hellooo,

The chap I'd tend to talk OSB stuff with in Yorkshire would be Duncan Turnbull - http://www.yorkshiremeats.co.uk/ .
Middle Whites would be Guy Kiddy on 01767 650884 (Beds).

Cheers

Where in God's finest county are you pigglewiggle? There is a herd of osb somewhere near penistone. middlewhites however, I have not come across. are you sure you won't consider anything else as there are a few other breeds knocking about. Most of the trad breeds have websites and forums, they might be helpfull. Try Merisa Jopich @ thewholehogwestyorks.co.uk , she does courses on pig keeping and knows quite a few breeders and keepers.

Doh, pickering?  ::) Ask paul millinder at east ayton , he used to run a traditional pig company. freerangegoose.co.uk is his latest venture.
