First pigs off tomorrow
« on: August 08, 2011, 10:17:15 pm »
Well the day has come, my first 3 home born and reared boars are off tomorrow. A little later than I planned but getting a slot booked for them has been a devil!
Think I've sorted everything, SFS sorted my slap marker in record time and despite the kids sleeping through the courier he came back this afternoon as i rang amd told them it was urgent. What fantastic service is that! Food chain form filled in movement licence completed, piggies loaded, slap marked and sleeping soundly in the trailer ( got to be there by 6:30 am so didn't want the stress for them or us tomorrow) oh and freezers and fridge sorted thanks to hairyhogs. (thanks again Jason, top bloke).
So have to say it is with pride actually, that our fine animals will fulfill the purpose for which they were bred and I'm really looking forward to my first home produced pork.
If anyone thinks I've forgotten anything shout now!

Thanks guys, oaklands I used Colliers in Swadlincote as per your list and they were great. Could only kill as short staffed but very helpful and efficient, were good with pigs and me as a newbie.

Great to hear, will add you as another positive response

I only have their adress as 57 High Street, which I presume is their shop?  Is the abattoir elsewhere?

Hi Helen,

Glad the slapper arrived in time - had me worried for a while.....

Just hope you tried it out on the kids before slapping the pigs....... :bunny:
