rose veal, an opportunity??
« on: July 30, 2011, 09:08:50 pm »
there seems to be a more positive future for this side of the meat production industry now the 'veal crate' scandal has settled, could this be a profitable string to a smallholders bow? maybe buying in young calves and raising them to standard.
i have no vested interest here, just raised this as a point of debate.
any thoughts?

Janet Street Porter was at Nidderdale Show last year promoting rose veal, her and Gordon Ramsay are big supporters of it and it did seeem to be going down well with the punters. It all down to educating the public same as an product eg getting them to buy well hung meat, free range eggs & chicken, free range high welfare pork etc. I think there is a niche market out there if somebody wanted to tap into it. It would certainly save a lot of bull calves who would otherwise be disposed of.
