left over calf starter fed to pigs?
« on: July 10, 2011, 09:46:13 pm »
I had a calf that I was bottle then bucket feeding calf starter.  I have a half bag left.  Would it hurt to mix it and over the next few weeks feed it to my two 7 month old gilts?

Can't see why it should. I assume there's no animal protein in it.

If you read the ingredients you'll find it's much the same ingredients wise.

are you talking about milk or feed. either way it should be ok in small amouts just don't replace there normal feed use it as an extra. it would have been clean from bugs when bagged if its the milk replacer. how long has it been open.

if its the milk replacer go by what it says on the bag. think of it as dried milk powder would you use it if it was open for 12 weeks.

Watch it doesn't make them scour (runny bottoms!) it will certainly build them up, i know of some pigs that were reared on creamy Jersey cow milk and they were real fat babies!!
