unsuccessful move
« on: June 19, 2011, 11:43:14 am »
our broody did not take to being moved into the safe house last night. She obviously did not sit on the eggs in there and went straight back into the old nesting box this morning. we did this before and both previous girls were absolutely happy with it , but they may have been moved later into the term. Does that make a difference? :chook: :&>

It seems to just be an individual thing. I had one that would not be broody if moved but happily tried to hatch straw for days back in the henhouse. I moved another at the same time and she sat tight. Who knows what (if anything  ;))  goes on in a hen's head  :D

ooh, thanks for reminding me .... time to get off the laptop and go and poke a broody!!
she's no fertile eggs so we are trying to just move her off the nestbox every so often, as she's not really that determined!!

i managed to move mine. She was on the side of the trampoline hidden under the tree. I moved her into a box with her eggs still on the trampoline first and then a day later i put her into a run. Luckily she stayed there. She had only been sat for about 5 days when i moved her. i suppose it really depends on the hen as to whether you can  move them or not all though i have always managed it with mine.

The only time I have been successful in this is by lifting the whole thing, nest, eggs, hen in a oner and putting in a very enclosed section of a coop that she can't get out of.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age
