smileys
« on: February 06, 2009, 12:14:20 pm »
Does anyone else have problems using the lovely smileys? Everytime I tried it came up with "javascript void". Google just brings up costly registry cleaners (which scan for free and frid 100s of other non-existent problems, then ask me to buy the product to fix them). I removed Java and re-installed it and cleaned my pc with windows live one care, which includes the registry. None of it makes a difference. The smileys on yahoo do work. My browser is mozilla.
Maybe any PC buffs have an answer to this riddle?

I have Firefox, Safari and IE and can use smileys on all of them with no problems.  Haven't tried W. Live one care - did you buy that, or is it included with W Live?  It might be your Firefox settings.

Live One Care's part of Windows Live, it checks for visuses, spyware, reg problems, defrags, but you have to load it through Internet Explorer (doesn't support firefox), it's a free scan online. Don't click on free trial, just on scanner when you scroll down a bit. I just use it if I might have a registry issue or check for viruses every few months (AVG free usually finds those though). Needs to be installed every time you want to use it.

Ok, Thanks. Might try to find it though as I had a virus on MSN and it might reassure me that AVG has properly dealt with it.
Is it you that has the 130 acres?  Somebody mentioned it on here and I spoke about gundog events but I can't remember now who it was.  I've just spoken to our Field Trial Secretary and he suggested I find out a bit more about the type of terrain.

Hi northfifeduckling

The smileys use javascript (which is a completely different thing to Java) and should work with most browsers.

Are you using Firefox? If so which version? Can you take a screenshot of the error you get please? Could you download Opera and try that please? Then we can tell whether it's the browser or a setting on your computer.

In the meantime you can do smileys the old-fashioned way. Just type these codes into your post to get the relevant smiley:

Code: [Select]
:ladybug:
:turkey:
:chook:
:horse:
:hshoe:
:sheep:
:bfly:
:goat:
:bee:
:pig:
:cat:

Hi Dan,
I usually use Mozilla 3.0.6
Now, I'm impressed with Opera, it's incredibly fast!
Let's see, if the smiley works on it, here's what I get:

javascript:void(0);

no, it doesn't...

typing it in now :duck:

If you're getting the same result in both browsers it sounds like something to do with your computer, not the browser. If you're running a security suite try looking in the settings to see if it's blocking javascript in some way.

And there is no smiley :duck:, which is why it didn't display! The duck is:

Code: [Select]

Hi Dan,
Thanks for all this. I've now checked in all browsers and Javascript is enabled everywhere.
Back to google and the consideration to cough up for a registry fix, but I'm really reluctant. It's only smileys, after all (and quite an old PC which mostly does what it's supposed to)!
Here comes the typed in version now!
