pair of 1year old norfolk black turkeys - nr kirriemuir
« on: June 05, 2011, 04:14:08 pm »
Due to workload (mine) and overload (my partner's) we are offering our pair of turkeys for sale -
They were hatched last August and the hen is laying but hasn't shown any signs of wanting to sit on eggs so far
We would really like £20 for the pair. We are 5 miles north of Alyth nr Glen Isla

Would the turkeys live with chickens or do they have to be kept seperate? I can't be far from you and would like a pair of turkeys.

Turkey poults are susceptible to blackhead which kills them. Blackhead lives in chicken worms. Our turkeys run around with the chickens all day but are not interested in going into the house at night. We have built them a turkey sized house which they are not interested in either. If they hatched any eggs the young would need to be kept on chicken free ground until they are mature when they would be strong enough not to get blackhead.

So the answer to your question is yes and no. I was going to fence off a bit to keep the turkeys in when they are breeding but i've never managed it.

I could take them off you.

I am heading up to the Highlands tomorrow so could pick them up on the way.  I had turkeys last year so have a full setup and experience.  They would be used for breeding and not for Christmas dinner!
