Just though I would let you know I just purchased my weaners which are in Desborough Northants. Prices start at only £20.00 each!!!! amazing but true,wormed and such,ready to go,from 2 weeks of age to 12 weeks. GOS,Saddlebacks,some X breeds like I purchased -GOS/Berkshires.The chap does the movement order and he tagged mine on the spot free of charge!

Couple of things:

* Slightly disturbed at what you say about all ages being available "from two weeks of age"!
I hope this was just a misunderstanding on your part.

* As for the movement order (movement licence/AML 2), he should do that anyway.

* So he tagged them for you? Not necessary! Under a year old, they can move with a temporary paint mark - no need for a tag showing the holding of birth. As you live in England, you will have to re-tag them with your own herd number when they go for slaughter, or add a slap mark.

I'm amazed that you think you got both these additional services "free of charge", as you say. Hardly what I'd call added value.

Without prejudice but I know you only need a temporary mark to transport them from there to home,but I just felt he was very helpful overall offering a superb service that anybody could not complain about,I also know that they fill out the AML2 for you,same as Melton or anywhere else,I did not suggest that this was a free service! as is part and parcel of moving them.-The tags still cost him money. The 2 weeks is a typo.they are 10-12 weeks of age.Apologies for my err.

I do not know if I have griped you but your response is a little stern after all,we all start somewhere and as above,I was delighted with the service offered,And the weaners were at auction price-Last week at Melton Mowbray the Pure breed GOS were selling for £21.00 per Weaner. This is a very fair price for any starter with pigs,and mine at £20.00 each and just up the road saved a lot of time and hassle.

I notice even around here weaners are offered from £35.00 upwards and as my local Pig farmer said,it is too expensive if you are serious about starting up-he should know,he has been a Pig farmer for 40 years and told me to look elsewhere what with the cost of feed and so forth.

I took my advice from him as a professional in this matter and he was right,why pay a small fortune when you can take £90.00 off of your cost price to start with-as in my case!-That is a lot of feed   and every penny helps when you are doing the good life

i totally agree.money saved is a good thing.especially to buy from choice at his holding.i can understand the market being cheaper because its normally stock thining and noone sells thier best ones.this is not to say its bad stock.far from it.sounds to me leghorn that youve had an outright bargain from a decent bloke.good on you.its all about the pennys mate.
