Got them at last!
« on: May 30, 2011, 09:59:31 am »
Our pygmy goats were delivered from Wood Green yesterday afternoon!  We were warned that they will avoid us for at least a month and be frightened in their new surroundings, but have settled straight in and are bouncing around all over the platforms and steps we made, are eating and drinking and were not bothered by the dogs barking at them (which they did for the first half hour till they realised they werent intruders and we wanted them there).  Last night when my son went to say goodnight to them they came over to the gate and let him stroke their noses so he went to bed well happy!  Will post pics later when i work out how to get them from my phone to the laptop.

Excellent  ;D

I find just 'sitting' with wild-ish animals, making no attempt to make contact, if they're really wild not even looking at them, so that they come to you and go when they want, is the fastest to build confidence. That said, your son seems to have made a great start  :)

Here they are, eating out of my lads hand.  The Wood Green keeper rang a little while ago to ask how we were getting on, she was shocked that we have made so much progress with them in just one night as they have struggled to get near them while they have been at the shelter  ;D

Thank you, they thought they were around 4 years old.  They were bought together from a breeder in a herd of 6 and were handed in because the owner decided they had too many animals.  Unfortunately 1 died of kidney problems not long after they arrived at the shelter.  It is just a shame we couldn't rehome the other 3 in the herd but they said we didn't have enough space for all 5.  Hopefully the other 3 won't be there long, there are 2 boys and a girl left.   :goat:
