Advice on Dongles!!!!!!
« on: January 14, 2009, 11:51:16 am »
My brother has been out of work for sometime due to ill health and has never claimed any benefits at all and is living off his saving which are depleting very fast. He used to have braodband internet and used it daily, he is also a very keen botonist and micrologist and is knowledgeable about IT etc but is paranoid about getting bug's on his computor, I can understand as it is costly to have virus checkers etc, so he wants too find the best deal on pay as you go internet service with, I think, a Dongle, anyone any ideas, he uses the library but hates the restraits of a hour and the specialist shops do not always know the best deal, so, if anyone uses a service, not for a phone but for a PC, I will pass it on, thanks Sandy

hey Sandy,

don't know if this will help any...

there are some reliable free virus checkers out there...AVG does a free version

http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

and here is a review of it and some others...

Here is a comparison site for mobile broadband...there are a few of them around so you might want to look for another (I'm no expert and can't vouch for the info).

Hello!

We got a 3mobile pay as you go dongle which seems to working really well. Not as fast as the BT broadband at home, but we are online anywhere.

The dongle was £49.99 and it can also act as a USB memory stick (which is usefull) and the pay as you bit is £10 per month. Good thing is  - if your not going to use it for a month, you don't have to pay, so to speak.

I used to have a Vodafone one, but found this loads better and easier to configure.

Also, you get free Skype mins with in, so you can phone landlines and mobiles from your computer.

hope this helps!
