the above link should take you to google books online and the full copy of Henry Stevens 'The Book of The Farm' 1860 version . There is also a copy of the earlier version of the book online also. You can read the book page by page online , or you can download the PDF of the book .The download link is towards the top right hand side of the page. The book is the one mentioned and used in the new Victorian Farm series on BBC2 . The series (very similar to the earlier series 'Tales from the Green valley', looks very good so far . If you missed the first episode , it can be seen on the BBC iplayer .

cheers

I thoroughly enjoyed the programme last night and look forward to the rest of the series. Particularly enjoyed the working horses.

sadly there are a few pages of the book that have been slightly miss scanned, ie they are missing a bit of text down one side or the other. If the page in question were one that you really wanted to read it would be a real pain , but so far the ones that have gone askew, haven't made that much difference to me . There is so much really good info there, that it is worth putting up with the odd missed words. The info on feeding animals on food grown on the land, before bagged food  (that lots of people think is the only way to feed any animal !!) is very handy . Complete breakdown of types of feed , quantity needed , how to grow it and nutritional values of each , is provided .  At over 1100 pages , it is a lot of reading . I haven't read it all !! but what I have read is extremely informative and very detailed. I haven't read ANY modern book with such attention to detail . So glad I saw the book mentioned in the Victorian Farm program, and that it was available for download on google books. I really hope it is of some help to others also .

cheers
