yep it should be solar flares not sun spots ... I am not an expert  !!! and did I say that what I said was FACT  ?  I haven't edited the post , and I can't see where i said it was FACT !!! I did say as often as I could ...maybe !! could be !!!
It is based on what I have read , and yes it is to some extent taking the p*ss . But what is going on at the moment is NOT normal .
If I state something is fact then I try to put in the links that I got the information from . This was not a factual post and I did not state it was . It was a mish mash of things that are happening and some of the reasons that MAY be causing them .
It is up to you to either prove or disprove anything in the post , if that's what you wish to do . I didn't say that what I was saying was fact or truth .....
I can't put any smileys on at the moment as my pc is going wobbly , they won't work  !! but have a nice day anyway ....

cheers

And the earthquakes and volcano eruptions that are happening ARE caused by one or all or a mix of these things . It makes little difference which one is causing the problems , just that they will be lasting some time , maybe even up to and after 21 12 2012 !!

That part in particular is stated as fact, but i didnt say that you said it was fact but that it was presented as such. Agree you do say "maybe" and "could" etc but i think it is dangerous and does more harm than good when people take theories (and i use that term loosely here as any credible theory needs at least some sound scientific backing), jumble them up and come up with all these ideas and ends up with people worrying needlessly.

Anyway Rusty am pleased to hear you were at least partly takin the mick  ;)

When you say "But what is going on at the moment is NOT normal" what do you mean exactly?

I for one am looking forward to a big change in the way humanity operates on the planet, for whatever reason it makes the shift.  If another 18 months wait is required, fine and if things are already moving to that purpose, great :)

I don't know anything scientific but if the risk of nuclear explosions in a "safe" political country due to natural causes (triggered by sun flares, comets, global warming or any other reason) makes other countries think twice about nuclear energy/bombs then that would be a very positive result in my opinion.

And if global recession and political manipulation result in a shift away from commercialism and towards more local production, sustainability and better consideration of effects of the way "we" live on the planet then about bl**dy time ;)

Those that have abandoned working for the bureaucracy in favour of self sufficiency are ahead of the game and will hopefully ride the wave of change like surfers while others come face to face with the pointless drone life we have been conditioned to accept for decades if not centuries.  Giving up religion for personal/collective and responsible spirituality, allocation of cash for sharing of abundant food, skills and other resources, me-me-me for US on a global scale..  I hope things like the Japanese earthquake, the bigger one in Indonesia (it was 9.1), even 9/11 can jolt us from unthinking acceptance of how things are to be, as Gandhi said, the change we want to see in the world..

Right, off soapbox and away for coffee ;D  Hail the revolution!  ;)

I am not going to get in to a pedantic argument on whether a comment , the word 'ARE' , denotes I am stating fact or otherwise . The fact is , it was an opinion ...not fact , and not stated as such . If people think that an off the cuff comment is dangerous then thats their problem ( or more correctly yours) not mine  .
I watched the film armageddon the other night ...oh my god , that is so dangerous making a film like that !!! no, it''s a film .... I made a comment , get over it . Some people seem to take it on themselves to speak for the populous when nit picking what someone has said . Who are you to decide what I say is dangerous or otherwise ? , if you don't like what I say , don't read it !!! Disagree with it by all means , that is your prerogative . I do not do PC never have and never will , if people don't like that , that is their problem not mine , in short , I don't give a shite.

The above may read a bit terse , and that it may be . I make no apologies for that , I say it as I see it and if people don't like for whatever reason ....so be it , I shan't lose any sleep over  it.

cheers

and who wants to know the exact scientific facts can use a search engine and then enlighten us with their own opinion ;). There is always plenty of things to worry about but what are the facts of what is to come? Nobody knows other than that we are all going to die one day and it will most likely not be pleasant. :&>

my goodness.
there has been apocolyptic prophecy ever since man could speak.
this 2012 nonsense is yet another form of propaganda designed to create fear. it annoys me that mankind is so arrogant as to believe
a; that we have the gift of foresight
b; that we are relevant
c; that we can stop or control events.

just sow seeds, look after the earth and be happy your alive. imho.

Wow rusty didnt mean to cause you to stress. All my posts were really getting at was there needs to be evidence when it comes to these sorts of things. People/articles/websites who have obviously influenced you have done it in a way to make these ideas seem plausable but most of them arent because there is no sound backing to any of it. This crazy hysteria over the things you mention is spreading like wildfire over the net, and why? Because some people trust things written up on forums and websites. Thats why its so important to back up comments in these situations.

Cant really see the relevance of the film Armageddon apart from being a peice of science fiction like most of the ideas in this thread. Anyway Rusty sorry if my last comment rubbed you up the wrong way, I didn't personally see it as something to cause offence merely a discussion. The conversation has kind of deviated away from the original points now so thats all I have to say on the matter.

Now if ireland sinks next week and a mile high tidal wave hits the uk I'll be the first to say I was wrong.

my goodness.

no stress caused at all Joe11 ,
I have no problem with discussing anything I say , but I do not like censorship of speech or of any of my freedoms whether it be from government or from self appointed net policemen .  But thanks for the apology , although not needed. You commented on what I said, and I answered , end of .
The relevance of the Armageddon film was that I made a written comment, and that film is a visual/verbal comment . Science fiction based, the film may be , but is what is said in the links below science fiction ? or science fact ?
Like with many other things that have happened lately , what the scientists say depends on where they get their funding from , and who they actually work for .

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/7819201/Nasa-warns-solar-flares-from-huge-space-storm-will-cause-devastation.html
is Nasa a good enough source of scientific fact ?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20110310/sc_space/willmarch19supermoontriggernaturaldisasters
answers for and against here , but even the scientific experts don't know for sure, YET.

"just sow seeds, look after the earth and be happy your alive. imho. "    Thats what I do , not because the end of the world is nigh , but because I want to .

lol.. the horses are fine thanks Annie,
we aren't having bad weather down this way for a change .It has been like spring for a couple of weeks now . The grass was even growing for a while , still is just moving a bit I think ? I hope so as I am running out of money fast ...lol. I hope you get some nice weather to soon , it will help you forget the cold and snowy stuff soon enough , well it works for me anyway mate.

Now , seeing as i sort of took the thread off topic (god forbid that should happen ...slap, slap, slap. ), I will get back to the point .
What am i doing in preparation for the end of the world ?? F*CKALL !!!!
  Ok , sorry ..couldn't resist .
No the fact is I am not doing anything really . I really do just do the things I do because I want to (did that make any sense ? ). All the self reliance stuff, I do because thats how I choose to live my life . Loads of boring reasons, and somewhere down the bottom is 'because the end of the world is nigh ' .
If TEOTWIN ? then the things I do will come in handy to say the least ( now there is a fact !!!) .
I am getting the veggie plot up and running again , after a nearly 3 year unwanted break . Lots of digging getting done now , and each day adds to fitness to allow more to get done , if you see what I mean .
The plot is about 30'x85' with another 4 beds for grain each about 10'x 85' , maybe a bit smaller , all depends on how much digging I get done !!.
The veg will feed me easily if TSHTF on a big scale , plus I can extend the plot to whatever size i need to , if family were to come to stay on the land due to some collapse .
The grain will almost keep me in bread for a year from the wheat , approx 60lb from about 3lb of seed sown . The oats about the same amount , would keep me in porridge and supply enough to use in cooking for a year , and the barley would provide animal feed and some to use in cooking . The rye , completing  the 4 grains, would supply grain for rye bread , which keeps longer than wheat bread , crisp bread and other uses in cooking .
I also keep a turn over of growing small amounts of seed such as linseed , hemp, alfalfa , sunflower , rape seed etc to provide fresh clean seed to sow the following year . Things like the linseed and hemp will provide fibre for cloth, sacking and string as well as rope , as well as seed for eating and for oil production . The sunflowers also provide oil for cooking or for fuel , plus any waste after oil extraction can be used as animal feed. The same applies to the oil seed rape.
I hope this year to grow amaranth and quinoa seed , along with some other millet type seeds . These produce huge amounts of seed per plant , that can be used to eat or to feed animal stock .
I hope the the cotton seeds I have are still viable , I can then grow all my own cloth !!! Just about got my spinning wheel ready to complete , and the loom is next on the list to do  ,at last .
I will also be sowing some tea plant seeds ( camellia sinensis)http://www.tregothnanshop.co.uk/ShowDetails.asp?id=257 , although it will take a few years to grow big enough to supply me with enough tea for a year.
I also have some (well a few million actually )papaver somniferum seeds . These are in fact opium poppies . No I don't intend to start a heroin supply route up , you can buy opium poppies in any garden center and also the seeds that you buy to put on/in your bread are mainly opium poppy seeds. ( quick sad FACT here ; if you eat a poppy seed roll a day and you are tested for drugs , you will possibly test positive for opiates !!) . I will grow them because I like the plants and if things did go tits up , I will have the seed to grow any opiate medicinal drug that may be needed ie morphine , but that would only be IF TSHTF .
I also have willow growing that will supply all my basket making needs as well as fuel, converted into charcoal , for the forge and the small foundry I have . I can then make/repair any metal tools I may need . The bark will also supply a natural substitute for the pharmaceutical aspirin .
I have a large bed of comfrey that will supply healing creams gels etc as an aid to any injuries that may occur in the future , I have used this before and it does work .
I could go on for hours , but would just bore the pants off you all .
All in all , if SHTF and TEOTW does occur , well if our way of life were to end anyway  !! then I would be pretty well ready for it . In fact apart from the PC and wellies , it wouldn't make that much difference to me really , I live the life already in many ways.

cheers

I have already got the mantraps dug and ready ...no point in a shotgun as there won't be any ammo once the world as we know it over... so I will use my longbow instead. I can hit a small hay bale ( man size ) , easily at 120 yards . So I am ready for whatever comes my way .
I might make a black powder musket though if time permits  ? Got all I need to do it ... a lathe , forge ,foundry , plenty of scrap steel and lead , plenty of wood for the stock and I make my own charcoal , can make salt petre and I have plenty of sulfur anyway , but you can make black powder with it .
Easier to make new arrows though !!! they don't make any noise either ....lol.
I might even cast a cannon ...just to be on the safe side ...just a 10 lb er . It will only take a couple of old engine blocks to do it.

cheers
