Easter Event at Palacerigg Rare Breeds Farm Park
« on: February 26, 2011, 12:21:18 am »
Hi everyone.  You may remember the successful campaign TAS members ran to save the rare breeds collection at Palacerigg Country Park back in December.  You gave us wonderful support  :bouquet: and some TAS members joined a new group - Friends of Palacerigg Rare Breeds - to offer continued support for the animals.  The staff at Palacerigg have come up trumps and decided to hold an Easter  :bunny: Event to celebrate and re-launch the rare breeds collection, and Friends of Palacerigg Rare Breeds have been asked to lend a hand.  The event will take place over Easter itself, from April 22nd to 25th.  For anyone in the area this will be a great family event but hopefully more TAS members will be able to join Friends of.... and come along to lend a hand.
I am waiting for copy from the organiser to put this information on the website www.palacerigg.weebly.com and I will let you all know when it's up.  The website itself still has a way to go before it is fully populated - but I'm working on it  ;D

So please carry on helping this excellent showcase for our rare farm livestock breeds, the only one in the south of Scotland, by joining the Friends and lending a hand at the Easter Event.

Anyone who is already a Friend but didn't get my direct mailing today, please let me know.

I have the last night of a training course earlier that week - but not sure if I'll be in the area or York for a few days after that yet. If I'm here, I should be able to help in some way or other.

I've emailed my daughter to see if we will take the children there in the Easter Holidays. Looking forward to it

Just as a coincidence, The Herald magazine is featuring Palacerigg Country Park as it's 'walk of the week' - 5.5 miles of woods and views  :)

Thanks Fergie
We really need as many helping hands as we can get - I think they are expecting great things from us but so far we are only a handful  :(

Thank you Karen  It will be great having your enthusiasm there  :)  I think it will be great fun for everyone.  It will also be a wonderful opportunity to help visitors to the park to understand the importance of farm livestock, especially the older breeds, to members of the public - who are interested and want to know more.
So come on - please lend a hand, even just for half a day.  Most of us will have a bit to travel, but it's worth it for this cause.  I think I will take my spinning wheel too as that always sparks some interest.

Hi Doganjo - did you get the email I sent you direct a few days ago with more info about the Easter Event?  What's the verdict from your daughter?   I hope you will all be able to come and help.

The dates are April 22 - 25th.  I don't know the times for sure yet but I expect it to be 0900 to 1630.  As soon as I hear back from the organiser I will post further details here.

The Walk from The Herald I mentioned before can be viewed here:

www.heraldscotland.com/.../the-walk-palacerigg-country-park-1   Just in case you are feeling energetic - it will be lovely in this dry weather we are getting.

Yes, got email, thanks, just asked dates reminder for others to see.  That link to herald doesn't work.

What kind of a hand are they looking for?  I'd help in principle but don't do anything as interesting as spinning to entertain or inform folk and could probably only get through one day so  not sure what I could do?

Just by being there you'd be a massive help  :) And don't worry that it would only be 1 day, even half a day is better than nothing at all  ;D
You could explain why rare breeds are different to commercial breeds, how important they are or just be a smiling face to encourage people to sign up for the friends of Palacerigg group - your help would be very greatly appreciated  :)
If you can pm your email address to either myslef or Fleecewife we'll add you to the emails and send you details.
Many thanks,
Karen x

Rosemary and I hope to get some help organised by discussing this at our committee meeting tomorrow evening.
