elliser you will have to electrify the fence you will also have to be watching as well so that when he goes breakdancing after touching the wires you can laugh at him now fence manufacturers tell you small mammals only last 20min when caught in the fence large animals and humans will succumb the same i would imagine

in scotland it is the other way about if you dont want stock in your land you fence it or dyke it
is that right? whos fault is it if ponies are reaching over the stock fence into neighbours gardens?

The fences are electrifide but they get turned off. I have to be careful as there is a public path across my land. The only people that use the path is an old couple to walk there dog they are busy bodies but there heart is in the right place. I keep myself to myself and don't bother people and only really speak when spoken to. O am keeping a diary of him watching me as he has to go to his upstairs to watch me so it is deliberate

the diary is a brilliant idea. sounds like you could get him prosecuted for not only criminal damage but stalking too.

princess that is different if it is a march fence(both parties paid for it)then it is designed wrong
if you paid for it it is sod all to do with the neighbour and they cant even hang a jacket on it
if it is the neighbour that paid for it they did not build it high enough and you cant hang your jacket on it if your horse is damaging the fence you are responsible for there actions

As well as keeping a diary I'd be taking pictures, a lot of them, frequently and very obviously.  When you see him watching you, take a picture.  When something gets damaged or disconnected report it to the police.  Also report concerns that he is stalking you - it's one of the things people do.

CCTV cameras are good when you control them because they show what you are doing as well.  But they cost money to install.  The actual cameras are very cheap so if it is feasible to place some very obvious cameras where you think he is causing trouble then their presence, wired or not, will be effective.  You can also (may be different in Scotland) monitor your livestock and land and somehow the picture will include his house.  He won't like the feeling that you are watching him.

We have found our PCSO's (the not-quite police) to be very helpful if ineffective.  They have few powers but they do love to be consulted and their records count.  You are making a legal, honourable and valuable contribution to society and you have nothing to hide.

What he is doing is bullying, and bullies never like to take their own medicine.

Pre-empt the death of your sheep by telling your vet (not a call-out, just a note on file) and telling the animal welfare people what you think may happen.  Ask them if they want to come: they won't but it is good PR.  In other words get your retaliation in before the attack so that his inevitable attempts to cause trouble bite him back.

You need to do some PR with your local councillors too.  You're not asking for anything from them, just informing them of what you do and welcoming them to come and see.  He complains to them and you are nice to them - you see how it works.

ps; don't take it serious folks !!! ( apart from the tooth in the hand bit , and the prices and the new pa handle !!!)

Thanks for adding that Russ.

There's some very good advice from waterhouse and others. Just to be clear, we don't condone violence as described in this thread - it's a criminal offence and despite Russ's experience you're likely to end up in the pokey or heavily fined, and with a criminal record.

Public service message ends.  :farmer:

no probs Dan,
as you have probably guessed , I am not PC , never have been never will be .
I don't intend to offend or outrage anyone , but if my words do , so be it . Most are said tongue in cheek , or from MY point of view , and although I see no reason to justify my words or actions to anyone , on a public forum such as this , that doesn't belong to me , I understand that in this totally insane world of "you can't say that or this" (the PC world that I do not inhabit) my words will seem somewhat over the top .
I wouldn't advocate that anyone go round and break bones for money , that was a joke , a sad one maybe , but isn't it equally sad that it has to be explained that it was a joke ? hence the PS.
It is a very sad world that words meant in jest could offend and cause offence maybe even compliant ?, or outrage , and yet people will put up with their lives being torn apart , trodden into the dirt , years of total misery , by some arsehole neighbours actions . I wouldn't .
I do try to curb my non PC view of life, and the way I talk , when I am on the forum . I don't always succeed !. As I have said , I don't intend to offend but I  lose no sleep if WORDS do so.
I say it as it is from my view point . I don't say that that view is  correct  , it is just mine ! I grew up in an era where you were entitled to say what you wanted , within reason , that 'reason' seems to have gone (but not for me  ).
I would like to thank you ,Dan and Rosemary , for allowing my ramblings without edit or interference , I appreciate my views may well be on what is the edge of acceptance these days , or at least I walk a thin line ...life on the edge again ... someone has to keep you on your toes though mate !!!  ;D ;D ;D
Remember the old rhyme folks 'sticks and stones may break my bones , but names will never harm me !!'  see I am not the only one  :D ;D ;D ;D ;D

cheers

I'm foaming we have had another visit from animal welfare today as the neighbour seen my sheep give birth and the stillborn lamb and reported us saying we had left the carcass in the paddock when it has been removed correctly. He is the only person that could see this part of my property from his upstair window if you have to walk to that part you have to climb 2 fences and would be trespassing.

Absolutely - you are being stalked, intimidated and made to feel a prisoner. This is not right. Bad enough having a still born lamb without this little sh&te watching and commentating (inaccurately).
good luck with the police - I am sure you will get help, let us know x
