Hi 
Just wanted to share with everyone the news that one of our black minorca's has laid her first egg, gorgeous large white one!!! 

We also set our incubator last week and out of 25 eggs 15 seem to have sparked, so am very pleased that we seem to have over 50% fertility!!! 

Despite the foul rainy weather today I can feel a spring in my step

we also had a nice surpise - a very small egg after one of the youngsters was in the nesting box - I was certain she would still turn into a boy

We now have 20 fertile eggs out of 25!!  Some were a bit more difficult to candle initially as they are auracana eggs with very dark thick shells.....so we are now at 80% fertility 

We are very proud as this is the first time we have ever incubated and although we have had hens for 2 years now still have a long way to go before we can call ourselves anything but beginners.

As Hermit says 'I do hope they all hatch'......
