coco the cochin boy that we bought for my 7 year olds xmas pressie still isn't crowing - now I'm not complaining but just checking that this is ok!
he's twice the size of the hens, totally gorgeous, not grumpy or anything but completely silent. He must be about 6 months old.
do you think he'll start to doodle-doo in the spring or when he starts trying to tread the hens perhaps?

Jamie was about 6 or 7 months when he started crowing, so yes, your boy may well start in the spring.  Unfortunately I have a neighbour who works shifts and wasn't getting sleep during the day so Jamie had to move out into the country with some nice black rock ladies.  I still miss him though.

mine started about 7-8mths, at 5am !! even locked up in the hen house i can still hear him from inside house!!

OK so it could be some time very soon  ;D  there's a donkey that eee-ors and another cockeral down the lane so hopefully the neighbours are used to a bit of noise. they did say they like the country noises of a cockerel when eloise and i asked them before we bought him - remains to be seen though  ;)

My cockerels (always crosses though), started to crow at about 4 months, but I always had more than one and they were by that time away from the girls and all together just the boys. I guess it was the most dominant that started.

some might think "lucky you"  ;D ;D but he's probably giving it a go soon in the early mornings. Those first attempts can be quite funny!  :chook:

I shall make sure I have a video camera for those attempts then!  the neighbours are quite pleased so far in our 'choice' of cockerel, hate to tell them that he might start crowing soon then haha, but i like the sound personally!

well, ours both started off in the hen house in the early mornings  - our neighbour was the first to know, she actually told me "so, you've got cockerels then" when I was still hoping they'd both be girls, lol   ;D ;D and they were quiet during the day  :chook: :&>
