DARK BROWN EGGS FOR HATCHING
« on: January 16, 2011, 12:58:09 pm »
Hi All - if anyone is interested I have an order book for my Marans hatching eggs.  Check out the photos of eggs and birds on my web site www.darkbrowneggs.info.  The prices are from £1 per egg for colour 4 on the official egg colour chart.

They are beautiful birds, calm and friendly to keep, not flighty and a very healthy bunch which should live a good long laying life.  I have bred them over the years to be good layers as well as laying nice big brown tasty eggs, and they are meaty birds with an excellent flavour (if that is your inclination)  And make a calm and gentlemanly cockerel if you want to breed with other fowl to darken their egg colour.

If you don't want to keep the boys, it is quite easy to sex them at day old by wing feathering or about a week or two old from secondary characteristics (I can give info)   but I find them an excellent meat bird for my purposes and keep mine on.  They can be wheat fed and killed off the range for a fat free bird, or fattened for a week or two if you want something plumper and juicier.

At 12 weeks (before they crow) they make a small roaster, or 20-24 weeks for a 5-6 lb bird.

Don't have many so the order book is filling fast

All the best
Sue

I'll be interested a bit later on  Sue,

I have already looked at your web site really informative :yum: :yum: - i would like to get some cream legbars to hatch at the same time so they can all go in the same pen.  Seems though that there are 'cream legbars' and then there are CREAM LEGBARS!!! i need to find some one with the 'authentic' real legbars first.

Hi All - Orders are a bit backed up for the present, but I will re-post when they have been fulfilled and I have more available

DyedintheWool  - pleased you enjoyed the website - I have tried to include useful information so it is a bit of a "resource" fboth for Marans, and for those generally interested in hatching/keeping chickens

On the Blue Egg front I am hoping to have some eggs for sale maybe next year, again concentrating on egg quality / colour - (well that is the intention anyway ;D)

All the best

Hi - I'd like to book some dark brown / very dark brown eggs, but for some reason on your website I cant send a message because the @ wont show properly!  I'm at [email protected].  Do you have unrelated batches, so that the birds could be bred?  They look lovely!
Thanks, Rhona
