what have we learned in the past 1000 years
« on: January 16, 2011, 10:16:34 am »
"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should
be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of
officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the
assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome
become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of
living on public assistance."

Amazing.  The wisdom of the past is ignored time and time again by the "intellectuals".  We are in the same sinking ship here across the Atlantic.

Mine too Yank.  Those who can feed themselves will be the survivors in the end.

Back the the quote though - I thought we were supposed to learn from the past - history repeats itself, so we should have had plenty of chances by now.

How about:

Quote from: Peter The Hermit, AD1274
“The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."

or

Quote from: Socrates, c.400 BC
“Our youths love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority—they show disrespect for their elders and love to chatter in places of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when their elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up food, and tyrannize teachers.”
