as usual with Britain when the EU impose new regulations we are the first to comply yet import in this case eggs that are still produced in old style cages the same with veal and pork
in this weeks Scottish farmer there is an article about farming in Canada written by an ex Scottish farmer he has embraced gm crops and is alarmed at the powers that be in Britain have not embraced this new technology and will fall by the wayside  and if it comes down to cost then is this the demise of farming in Britain

About time those spineless gits in Whitehall told the EU to get stuffed or put a blanket ban on imported goods that we produce ourselves.

It's very worrying. The UK has complied with the removal of battery cages by 2012; a number of other European countries have not. Alyn Smith MEP has been trying to secure assurances that these illegal eggs will not be allowed on to the market place. The problem is "what do you do with them?" It's a lot of food to trash.

The whole GM thing is scary - the big companies who control GM are trying to scare us into believing that mankind can't survive without GM. I don't believe it. I don't want GM here. If you want it, go to Canada and embrace it.

money is always the last argument - costs apparently justify anything. It's not about feeding the world but about giving shareholders their dividend and bosses their bonuses.
