It's a good idea to work out how much it has cost you to raise the pig, that then gives you the least amount you can sell it for.  Have a look at what everyone else in your area is selling for.  If yours is pure GOS, then you could always add a premium.

£240 for a whole butchered GOS is a reasonable price.

And considering the hike in feed prices thats not a lot of profit.  Don't forget to factor in sundries like cost of getting them to abattoir and if you pack them yourselves the cost of bags etc.

I agree, we were selling whole butchered pigs last year for £240 a whole and £140 a half including sausages. We sold the lot before we even got the weaners on the land!! Best thing i have ever done and we are just in the early planning for getting this years herd.

If you look on one of my earlier posts i put all of the costs associated with our pigs from last year, and i think i put all the sale figures in there too.

The rise in pig feed prices will effect everything, from the price of pork to the price of weaners. :-\.

They reckon that the hike in pig food prices is going to put a lot of pig farmers out of business over here.

We're in the home counties and have to pay for everything (not just weaners, food and abattoir, but also field rental). Half a pig goes for £175 here (unbutchered), an animal park close by (who, of course, have their own sows and land) sells them for just over £200 butchered.
