How many small square bails of straw are there in a large round bail of straw?

I cant remember I am trying to work which is cheaper to buy!!

Depends on how tightly the bale is packed. For hay it is between 12 - 15.

You are lucky if you have got the choice! For straw its only large bales around here, for hay usually only small ones....

what kind of straw is it? i would have a guess at 15 but like has been said before depends on shape and size and how tight  as around here iv seen round bales big hestons and even bigger hestons  iv seen a few shed loads going up north aswell. its well on the move

with round bales it can be anything from 10-20 all depends on who and what baled it some big hestons may have 30 bales in them could be more

I get my hay supplier to convert the bale to small square bales- usually 10 per big bale.  You are cheaper with the big round bales but need the space.  I found that there is more dust etc in the big round bales - I guess that gets lost in the square baling process.  I don't know if it was related but my sheep got pink eye (infection) the year I changed to round bales and high feeders - caused a lot of problems.................

it was wheat straw, pretty clean and id say about 12 bales per round bail. cost me £20 thought that was ok, the sheep are snuggled in it  now waiting for our first appearance
