Bereaved goat - advice please
« on: August 04, 2024, 08:47:17 am »
can someone advise please - one of my neighbour's pygmy goats passed away last night (castrated male) leaving a middle aged lone female
How long would you wait before introducing a new companion?
can this be female or better to stick with castrated male?
he's been offered a group of 3 young castrated males - is this a good or bad idea?
does anyone have a suitable pygmy looking for a good home?
thanks

Either a female goat or a ewe would do the trick. I would avoid the trio of wethers.

Probably best to get another goat. Maybe if he took in one or 2 of the weathers and try to get them all to be buddies. All 3 would be ok but could be a bit overwhelming, especially if a bigger standard breed, and could result in bullying and her getting more depressed. Another doe would be ok to but if he isn't worried about breeding then a weather is best! I think I would try 1 of them if possible.
