Help with an ill Chook

Morning all

Well, this morning I am another year older and somewhat wiser. Cleaning out the chooks this morning, one of my hens refused to come out of the hen house. She is very lethargic and seems to only want to stand in a corner with her head right in the corner. Can anyone advise please?

A small asprin and some warm porridge might do the trick. I always try that first.

As update - She is all fluffed up in the yard at the moment and only interested in drinking water. She is not even interested in the corn. Poor girl.  :(

I've seen others say they give asprin. When you say 'small' do you mean part of a tablet? Half? Quarter? Just worried that if I ever need to do it I won't know how much to give.
Thanks.

She does not appear to have lost any weight
Her vent is not any more dirty than normal
She was rescued from the battery farm in May
No sign of any injury

As best as I can tell her brest bone isnt prominent and her vent isnt dirty and there is no sign of injury.

I gave the girls their first dose of Verm-X on Firday and then again on Saturday. Her crop has a very small spot of frost nip and there are no lice.

Nothing glaringly obvious then?

she could be just old/worn out maybe  :-\

Is it possible to put her somewhere warm and cosy for the night? try and get her to take some warm water mixed with honey and offer some warm watery porridge? or even a few drops of rescue remedy if you have any? sometimes they just sort of give up, other times, a nights rest somewhere with some warm sugary sustenance in them is enough to bring them back.  Trouble with the ex. batts they do often run about one day and keel over the next  ???

Hope she perks up for you.

I have some small soluble asprin, The dosage is hardly anything. you can buy them at the chemist. The hen can swallow them easily and it does work. also try heating an old towel in the microwave and wrapping the bird in it for a while. Oh are'nt we daft with our animals?

I would'nt say we are mad with our animals. Attilla (our ill chook) spent the evening on the back of the couch watching Inception and then she fell asleep behind the sofa in a box. Today she is back to normal.

Thanks for your help everyone.
