day before yesterday a pile of snow came off the house roof onto the conservatory roof and cracked it.  It's made of polycarbonate and where the 2 bits join together they have come apart.  Cant wait for the thaw as will have a swimming pool in my conservatory no doubt.

and then a few moments ago, i heard an almighty crash outside.  told the children not to worry it was just snow coming off the roof.  went outside to check and was greeted with half the guttering lying all over the place, huge chunks of ice that are gutter shaped everywhere and gushing water!  the falling guttering and ice have landed on the pipe for the outdoor tap and fractured it!

hubby and pal busy trying to fix it in the freezing cold!

cant wait for the next thing!!!!!

so long as no people or animals are hurt i think i'll cope though

THe hidden dangers behind snow and ice, looks pretty but can do damage, Hope the insurance covers the damage, I wounder about the weight of the snow on our plastic roof where the dogs sleep, maybe we should clear it off tomorrow!!!!! Hope thats the last of your disasters!!!!

my OH opened our brick potting shed (love it, has a loo, sink and heating) and 7 inches of water came flowing out!!!!! made the driveway like an ice rink later when it froze....
found two leaks!!!! have to sort once the snow melts

You're not kidding - my Dad has just ended up A&E after slipping on the ice in town, banging his head and passing out.  He's 77!  Thing is, I had only just bought him a pair or Yaktrax (bit like tyre chains only for shoes) as he fell over last week too.  Did he have them on?  No!!  Fortunately he was not kept in but is feeling very shaken, has a big lump on his head and a very sore thigh muscle.  Like Sandy said, 'the hidden dangers behind snow and ice!' You can never be too careful.

that's my point - as long as people and animals are ok, the rest can be fixed - somewhere along the line!  heard about those 2 people that died in cumbria, both in their back gardens apparently!  how awful.

our local fabby farmer was due to go in for a hip replacement this week and of course it was cancelled.  he's now fallen twice (no gritters ever going to go up a farm track) and the second time couldnt get up.  luckily one of their farm workers saw him, and together with one of his sons, was able to help him. couldnt help but think that was probably the same kind of situation that those 2 people that died were in.  so sad.

so sorry, Laura!! I'm not looking forward to the effects of the thaw either, it is just so much snow! I hope you'll be able to patch things up to avoid the worst...
Is it the man from Blacks who fell? He mentioned how much he was looking forward to the op last week, poor man, he was in so much pain al;ready- I hope he's sort of ok for now...

the thaw has started in buckie, one half of the barn roofs snow slid off this afternoon and took half the new guttering with it, OH only put the guttering up 3 weeks ago hes not impressed, whoops

Thank goodness the thaw is here but for how long??? I am paranoid about falling, I walk around like a robot and feel like I need to stay in!!!!! I love walking in the snow but not the ice Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

I fell a couple of weeks ago (on a wet, slippery path after a day of rain) and sprained my wrist / arm.
then after the first fall of snow, fell again and made it worse!
 We've since had 3 foot of snow and ice.... I'm being even more careful, but there are things need doing.  Ive stayed off work as we are expected to go in even if it means walking (no public transport all the way) I'm 5 miles away so they can manage without me .

(before you wonder... I'm 28   its not just pensioners who aren't safe to be let out!)

Well, I'm nearly 67, and have broken my collar bone and pulled cruciate ligaments to pieces with falling so I'm extremely careful too.  But sometime I think if I just relax more I'm less likely to fall.  I think it's being tensed up that makes it worse.

my husband has found a novel way to enjoy the weather! he normally drives our feed to the bottom of the hill but due to snow he cant!he has now taken to sledging down one bag at a time!he even went down the hill on a full bag of chaff......got quite a shift on actually..lol..mindd you ,should of seen the ponies looking at him..cant imagine what they were thinking but it was probobly the same as me.. ::)men!!
