My Chikens share thier food with any bird thats passing so I have given them my mixed bird food as I cannot see it doing harm, funny thing is, I have some hubbards, I give them growers pellets in the morning then let them out for a roam around 2 and as soon as I open thier run there are 2 ex batts ready to run in to take a look at thier food, almost like people queing at a sale, the other funny thing is the hubbards raom a little but then sit down next to thier run until they return themselves to bed!!!!

I chuck mine some mixed bird seed too, as well as mealworm.  They love the sunflower seeds and it keeps them occupied for ages having a scratch about  :)

Our 'Penny hen' sits under the bird feeder waiting for bits to fall and comes running when I fill them up - so I guess she like it and been doing it for yesrs to no ill effect.

CSSA hatched about 90 of them I think, for our members - Sandy bought four at a few weeks and is raising them for Christmas.

I have trained my chickens to come running at the sound of a mealworm bag being shaken! They go MENTAL for them - they eat them out of my hand. My son calls them "Chocolate for Chickens"  ;D
Cheapest I have found is B&M Homestore - £1.99 a bag. Tesco also sell them same price smaller bag. Most expensive place is Homebase. If you are feeling really flush you can buy live ones from petshops (they stock them for reptiles)
