My friend has a chicken which  has been limping quite badly. He thinks she could have sprained it. Just wondered if he could give her something for pain relief? Thank you

Half a 300mg aspirin tablet once only- our vet's suggestion and it does work wonders.

Thanks for that Chrismahon. Did you dissolve the aspirin in water and syringe it in her beak?

We just drop the piece well down her throat and flush it down further with syringed water. I don't think it will taste very nice otherwise. You could follow it up with a treat, to be sure it goes down (like a split grape). Ours have all shown a rapid improvement.

Would you really eat a sick animal, especially if you didn't know the cause of its sickness?


OK this one has just a sore leg, so that could be OK.  However, I'm glad I'm not your granny arobwk

BSE should teach us the risk of eating sick animals, but that was not going to stop me offering a bit of whimsy [member=4333]Fleecewife[/member]. 
That said:  unless a disease is diagnosed before an animal goes for slaughter, who knows what we are eating. I always cook my meat well, but in more recent times I do allow myself a "medium" steak once again !

Blood in meat makes me gag    When I eat meat I like it to be cooked long and slow so it falls off the bone. Chefs are mostly unable to cook meat the way I like it (it offends their chefiness not to have it dripping with gore) so I revert to being vegetarian when I eat out.


When one of my sons was studying zoology at Uni he had great fun showing others the fluke and other parasites in the meat from the canteen as they ate their lunch 


Apart from bacon, I only eat meat I have raised myself ie sheep, but I know I'm very lucky to be able to do so.
