Don’t know what this is it just came up today treated it with salt water it’s a salmon feverolles chicken

Never seen anything like that in 12 years of forums- it's ghastly. At a guess it's a form of canker of some kind. I don't think you should try treating it without vet consultation. Look carefully at your husbandry, or find someone to look for you.

Whatever it is salty water isn't going to cure it.  I would expect that as soon as you saw something like that you would either take the bird to your vet, or put it out of its misery pronto.

My vet doesn’t know s**t about any animal accept cows so there goes that idea

It is hard and it doesn’t move the chicken in fact is not in any pain it could just be a bit tender if it got touched she’s acting completely normal

If it is something like canker it could spread to your other birds. It seems to be carried by wild birds especially pigeons.


I understand that some vets aren't expert where chickens are concerned but they usually have a good understanding of common ailments. It would be a good idea to at least have a telephone conversation with them initially. Treatment might be quite simple and inexpensive.


I  don't think chickens often show pain until it's too late.

Only one vet?  No partners?  IS there a vet nurse?  Sometimes they are better than vets

So two days later and still no progress. No sense of urgency then! And how is the poor little chicken? Have you thrown all the welfare standards out of the window?

The way I see it is theses types of forums are for getting other farmers opinions first if somebody else has had the same problem they can comment of how they fixed it and why it is before I take it to the vet that doesn’t know anything and majority of the posts that I have posted I have fixed at home through other people experiences most of the time when we take it to the vet the vet says the exact same way as we’ve already been doing. Just because I post on here asking for peoples experiences does not mean I will never take the animal to the vet I am just looking for other peoples opinions and ideas before hand AND I DID CONTACT THE VETS SURROUNDING ME BUT THEY ARE ALL HOPELESS AND HAVE NOT GOT BAVK TO ME WHAT SO EVER
