Sugar beet shreds
« on: July 21, 2020, 08:48:25 pm »
Just a query about feeding sugar beet shreds to sheep. Should I soak them first or feed them as they come from the bag? If I soak them, for how long and then do I let them drain for a while? Sorry for all the questions I just don't want to get it wrong!
Thank you

Try adding some boiling water, just enough to make the shreds swell up, not turn it into porridge. However my goats love their shreds, the sheep won't touch them.... I feed it still warm, and add a splash of olive oil ( extra virgin - but from Lidl) for anyone especially picky...

I've never fed the shreds but I have fed the pellets - you can feed them dry to sheep.

Mine have shreds, help bulk out the nuts a bit and bit of energy.
They have it dry, no probs.

Thanks for that Bazzais. I tried them with some today, not interested in the soaked ones, but ate them dry! Just don't know how much to give them though. Obviously just a few to start off on. In fact it's only one of my ewes that I'm giving them to as she's lost body condition.
