Would you try these?

I was looking for live mealworms for nestlings when I came across this.  Anyone prepared to put their mouth where their money is and give live bugs a go?

When I was lecturing at a London University there was a group of female Zimbabwean students sharing out things to munch on. When I spoke to them afterwards they offered me to try some roasted termites (crunchy) and a type of short fat worm (chewy). They were quite tasty actually.

PK you're the only adventurous one  :excited:

I must admit I wouldn't touch them either, not to eat  :roflanim:

Dry fried termites are actually very tasty (great with a little added garlic ) - but not sure about mealworms - they smell very different for a start!

Let's face it, lots of this is cultural. Why would you eat a lobster, but not a cockroach for instance?

I spent the past 18 months developing a new process to make Mycoprotein (most commonly sold in the UK as Quorn), and that's basically a fermented mould. The market for alternative protein sources is absolutely massive, and growing at a phenomenal rate.

However, because culturally, we're a long way off accepting insects as food, it's more likely that in Europe we'll farm insects to feed to chickens or fish for example, which we'll then eat. It amounts to the same thing really, but is just less efficient!!

Now here's a question - industrially grown meat (i.e. mammalian cells) - Yes or no?

Yep I would. I have tried mealworms before and have had crickets multiple times. I really quite like flavoured crickets. I eat them like I’d eat nuts or pork scratching.
(However they are a rare treat as cost a fortune in comparison!)
