[Part time dabbler]

I am considering getting some Guinee Fowl to go alongside my four remaining chickens. Does anyone keep them and mix them with chickens?

Several questions:

1. Do they use the same sort of coops as chickens
2. Do they mix well
3. I let the chickens free range in my garden (2.5 acres), will it be ok to do the same with the GF?
4. Anything else I should know

They are very noisy, can fly exceptionally well and prefer not to roost in a coop unless introduced to one at a very early age. We have also considered them- they are reared a lot here within very high fences. I have seen a small flock of them in the same area as chickens so it should be OK to let them range in the same area. Expect them to find a tree to roost in though.

Yes they are like pigeons - you have to keep them in an aviary for like 2 months or get young kits.
They might be aggressive and territorial towards chickens.
And most importantly as already mentioned they are LOUD!!! They taste really nice though.

I know of a farm that had a small flock of guinea fowl many years ago.

Long story short, they got out and decided they liked the woods and fields much better and for many many years have lived happily and continued to multiply.

You always hear them but don’t often see them!
