Selling Eggs in local shop/cafe
« on: April 26, 2019, 09:47:02 am »
Hi all, another question regarding selling of eggs... ???

We have a local community cafe that is looking into whether it can sell eggs on behalf of a local smallholder (in Scotland),

The suggestion is that the eggs would be displayed in the shop away from the food preparation/serving areas and a tin placed there for people to pay their money. The cafe would receive commission from the sale of the eggs.

Now I think that by doing this the cafe is effective a reseller of the eggs and so the eggs would need to be 'registered'. Only direct to consumer sales are possible otherwise.

Thanks

Dave

Yep thats into reseller territory

these are the only exceptions that allow you to sell your eggs

by the producer on their own farm
by the producer through door-to-door selling
by the producer in a local public market

Basically they need to be either sold from your premises or by you to comply

registration is free and not too tedious - and you might learn useful things in the process; I did!
