Favourite old TV shows
« on: October 11, 2010, 08:11:58 pm »
We were out for tea with Dan's parents, his brother and s-i-l and their two boys  yesterday and we got talking about old TV shows that we loved ( much to the curiosity of their teenage sons).

Favourites were The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie. I also loved a show called "The Munroes" about a family of children in the American West - they had a Pyrenean Mountain Dog called Snow (I think that was my favourite bit) - but I think I must be the only person who watched it!!  "The White Horses" and "Belle and Sebastian" during the school holidays - took me years to work out why the words didn't match their mouths  ;D plus cowboys - "The Virginian" (James Drury was my first crush  ;D), "High Chapparal", "Bonanza"

What were yours?

I remember all of those Rosemary - especially Belle and Sebastian.  I was of course, very young at the time ::)!!
My favourite during the school hols was definitely Banana Splits (loved Arabian Nights, the cartoon which came on halfway through it).  Also remember Robinson Crusoe, I can still hear the theme tune which I think is some reasonably well known classical piece.  Happy days!

Used to love a programme called Moschops but not many people remember it!

The Muppet Show on a Sunday at tea time was a firm favourite in our house, accompanied by shop bough French Fancies and Viennese Whirls (which are now much smaller than I remember them....but I digress.... ::))

Bill and Ben, Andy Pandy, The Woodentops, The Herbs, The Magic Roundabout, Trumpton, Chigley, Camberwick Green, Along The Riverbank, Mr Ben, Bagpuss, The Clangers, Play School, Play Away, Jackanory, Noggin The Nog, Ivor The Engine, Animal Magic, The Golden Shot with Hughie Green, Banana Splits, The Double Deckers and the original Tom and Jerry cartoons.
TV's been rubbish since, I can't stand BB, soaps or X factor and things like not to mention Jeremy Kyle and shows of that nature, "Retard TV" I call it.

Ooh, I'd forgotten about the Banana Splits. The Double Deckers - remember them? I liked "The Champions" too - just as well since I married one  ;D

The Golden Shot with Hughie Green - was it not Bob Monkhouse - and Ann Aston and Bernie the Bolt?

When I was about five or six, on a Sunday, my Mum used to wash my hair for school and then dry it during "The Forsyte Saga".

The Fosyte Saga, wasn't that with Susan Hampshire? I've not long finished reading the book.
