the most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, loving concern.

They are wonderful dogs.  We had a guardian dog when we first moved to our smallholding.  She never had to do something as heroic as those two, but she was wonderful, always aware of what was going on as far as the eye could see and the ears could hear.


I think guardian dogs would be a very worthwhile outlay for sheep farmers in the Highlands and Islands who worry about giant birds of prey taking their lambs.  A couple of guardians would surely keep them safe.
