Tag numbers - different types?
« on: August 29, 2018, 04:42:31 pm »
Hi all,

I have noticed that some sheep for sale have different types of ear numbers. I just wondered if someone could enlighten me?I have Shetlands and their tags are all like the ones I bought for my own lambs the UK +7 digit number followed by 5 digit number. I bought a ram lamb who has the same sequence followed by another 7 digit/letter combo, and have seen similar in auction catalogues, and was interested to know!

Thanks

Is it a breed registration number?

For example, our sheep are tagged:

UK01234     / 0123      / 00789                 -001F
Flock            Animal      Zwartbles flock#    The first animal registered in year "F" (2018)

Sounds .like a breeding Tag, They usually have the flock number, individual number, breeders identification, breed society registration and the year of birth..
