shepherd's pie
got it from 'The students grub guide'
1lb of mince beef
1 onion, peeled and chopped
1 clove of galic, peeled and finely chopped
1 tin of tomatoes (optional)
1 tbs of tomato puree
1 tdp of mixed herbs
salt
Pepper
2 tbbs of oil
5 medium potatoes , peeled
Heat the oil in a largish saucepan, add the onion and garlic , and fry for 3-4 minutes, Add the meat and cook for another 10 minutes.
While this is simmering, cook the potatoes (test them with a knife - the knife should pass through the potatoes easily) then mash them with nob of butter and a bit of milk .Put the meat in a ovenproof dish cover with the potato, then put under the grill until the potato browns.
Made it for tonight tea (it just needs to be browned later and heated up)
I would called this a store cupboard recipes as we normally have all these things available
