We recently had a 5wk old piglet drown in its mum's drinker , i didn't think they were big enough to climb up but lesson learn't i was wrong , she'd obviously managed to clamber onto the rim and then fell head first in and then couldn't then scramble back out. Awful. For weaners we have an empty cow mineral tub cut down to about 5 inches and use this until they are a good 12 wks old, they then go onto the normal sinks that we use.

We also cut our empty mineral lick buckets (80 kg) to troughs in various heights. Sincer there is a never ending supply of these buckets it also doesnt matter that they do break after a while pigs playing with them in the field; then they can still go to the recycling.
The cut off top bit rings with the handles on we use as plant rings, works quite well and makes most of the money you have to pay for the licks nowadays...
