Avoiding all the plastic crap seems to be my main aim these days . People give me clothes etc , i always say i don't want anything thank you , but nearly everything is poly wotsit or nylon etc , i tell them what i do with it , but they never take any notice !
I don't wear plastic clothes , i burn them , such a waste .

Hey, don't burn - give them to charity shops; plenty of people out there who'd like them. I'm the same, though; I own two fleeces, both were presents - I wear them when I do anything mucky, on top of wool (in winter) or cotton (in summer). It is handy that they dry so easily. But I would never buy one myself...

I've been following this thread with interest - haven't got a clue what ads you are talking about, as I avoid any advertising! I'm quite skilled at "not seeing" them in print or on screen; and I don't have telly, anyway. And if I do happen to see massive advertising for something, that signals to me - avoid at all cost; because you are paying a high price for those ads, and a lot less for the product!

I would do Ina , but i don't go to the shops and no room to store anything here . So anything plastic ends up in the bin sooner rather than later .

I realise it's a lot more difficult to stay away from it all if you have family. :-\

Like relative poverty, you do not know or care how poor you are until you see richer people or in fact poorer people!  Much harder for people with children!!

I just saw the Sainsburys advert - much more evenly balanced. :eyelashes:

I was brought up CofE until the church organist started playing with other people's organs. But it saddens me to see a venerable institution transform itself from mostly irrelevant to plain contemptible.

After a few years study and work in Child Protection, I became more and more cynical and not very often shocked.....I remember having suspicions and concerns but most of the people are clever and have power so hide what they do, then, if any one rubbles them, its the person who dobs them in that gets a bad name!!!  Nothing to do with sexual things , just bad practice but I wanted to report some one but knew I would never get a social work job in my area if I did..as the person was as high up as they could get they did not act on any of complaints I made along with several other workers, justice happened in the end but that's just how it goes, people are in fear of loosing jobs these days so choose not to look!!  I am so glad I work for myself,  :relief:

About 33 years ago when I brought my BH home for the first time to meet my social worker mother she cheerily announced "we had another incest today" over lunch.  Would be a conversation stopper even today.

I caught this on the Beeb
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20205599  Not often do you catch an American doing irony - and making such a strong point about sexist boards
