I've never miss-fueled a vehicle yet - other than using paraffin in the petrol during the crisis and using walnut oil (or any old vege oil from the kitchen) in the 2 stroke strimmer to get me by.

i could be wrong but i don't think you understand the fuel systems of diesel or petrol engines either old or new

I was telling OH about this thread - and that I'd mentioned him - he didn't look happy till I said I'd written how easy it would be.
he said you can get away with a couple gallon of petrol in a diesel (4x4-Big tank?, if you fill it up with diesel straight away, but the other way round it's b*****ed!

didn't they used to start the old Fergie tractors (T20 or something?) on a parafin mix?
if you mixing oil + petrol for a 2 stroke mix whats wrong with vegoil in an emergency?

petrol/paraffin tractors      always started on petrol  you had to switch over to petrol before stopping if it was not going to be used for a a while              if it had paraffin in it when stopped it would not start on parafin if cold           the carburettors was a vaporizers
2 stroke oil is specially formulated to the specific purpose(lubricate the internals of the engine       veg oil is not
long before diesel had anticoagulants added you mixed petrol with diesel to stop it freezing  -25 deg
put a match to diesel and it does not burn    put diesel in a paint sprayer pull the trigger and introduce a match you have a fierce flame   why because the diesel has been atomized
modern engines with common rail injection systems work at greater pressures than old dieselsand have finner tolerances     modern petrol engines work on the same principal but need petrol to work
